I just accidently went to the old site, and the home page is up again, but the forum isn't working. Though the error page has changed.
Are epiphanysolutions the owners? Wonder what they are up too!

That is odd, this could get very confusing for many people if they return with the forum. I know for one I'm staying here.

There was always the possibility that the new owners (Epiphany) would get around to putting the forum up again.
I guess it will be an individual choice around whether to go back or what action you want to take in relation to your posts that are over there.
As we have outlined previously, the fact that the forum went down was not the only issue that we had over an extended period of time so we will be continuing on here now that we have the site set up (still with lots to do but functioning at least).

Well if we're all over here then I dont see the point much in switching. Though the old forum with new owner might have something different, but I'm not sure what.
And at least we're stable here. We wont vanish again, will we?

Absolutely no intention to vanish again! And if there is going to be a problem, then we will know what and why! A big improvement.
Very odd. I tried just now and got a 404 error message and the detail that I'm not allowed to access the old forum.
I certainly wouldn't go back, but if it does go back up, might be worth copying and pasting the stuff we need from it and bringing it here... unless that's against the law?

I don't know where we would stand. I would think that there wouldn't be a problem copying and pasting our own stuff, but I am not sure about posts by others.

How strange. Is it one of those 'twilight zones' do you think?!:p:D I can't see that there would be any harm in copying anything that you yourself have written. I suppose permission would be needed for anyone else's. It'll be handy to copy of those lists of the books of the month, etc, won't it.

I dont remember Epiphany. what did her avatar look like? Did she post a lot because Id ont remember. Personally, I want mods and admins who post on the forum every day to keep an eye out on what is going on. spamers etc. So far thats happening and thats what I like. You need people who are interactive.

Epiphany Solutions is the name of the newest owner. They never posted at all.
Well I know where I will be staying! This feels so homely and safe!

Ohhh...now there is a note on the home page too:
Please Note! This site is currently migrating from one server to another. Apologies for any downtime. All issues should be resolved in the next few days. 02/09/08
Well...they maybe can just stick their epiphanies!
If they were just changing servers, a bit of communication wouldn't have gone astray! So now they might find themselves with an almost inactive forum.

If it comes back alive, then I'd like to troll through and paste stuff from some old posts as well. The ones I have in mind would be a few of my replies to members' reviews and responses to some of the threads involving questions and research or preferences for a certain era.
I'm sure after that possible trolling expedition, I'll quit the site and come on home to our lovely new Historical Fiction Online or HFO. I'm with everyone else, safe and sound here.
An old proverb comes to mind: Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

For transferring posts -
You can move/copy your own, but not other people's without their permission. It's a matter of copyright.

The old forum is up again, so I just went and fetched my review of Rakossy. As to all the other threads, posting a comment without the context of discussion would be a little odd. Besides, it's fun to talk about all this stuff again!
I also posted an invite to lost members with the new address.

Thanks for the heads-up. I hate it when my message boards disappear without warning.

There's no way I'm going back and leaving this board, we're all here :). I'm seriously tempted to delete any reviews I've posted, if I'm allowed to.
I've hopefully just deleted The Needle in the Blood from the reviews forum.
I hit the edit button and cleared the screen the saved. Got a message saying I couldn't delete because of wordage so I just wrote 'edited and deleted' in the body of the e-mail and then came out (cus I's supposed to be working!)

I'm definately staying here as well. Besides, it seems like with the creation of the new forum, things have been re-energized. I haven't had a chance to post much since the new site came up (been out of town), but I'm very excited about our new "community".

I've just been to have a look. You'd think they'd have an announcement somewhere, though, wouldn't you? Or some sort of apology for the site being down.

I don't recall signing my intellectual property rights away when I posted there. So if access becomes available, and if my posts are still there, I will be selectively copying any worth saving. I've already found and copied some that are still in the Google cache or available at the Internet Archive.

Well if its a company or whatever and not a member who owns the new site then yeah I'm not going near it. We're all here. I'll stay. :)

I know! That was just weird! Is it a money thing, I wonder? But seriously, how much can you make off a forum like this? Seems like it's more work for the Admins than anything else! I know that's true for the site I Admin!

On my Jane site if I'm lucky I can make a $100 or so every few months. If each us click a few times a week I'm sure they can earn a good amount.

That is what we could never understand. They had a site where their mods were happy to do whatever needed to be done, and they just had to watch the income come in (and pay server costs of course), and yet even that was too much.

But obviously no idea about communication!

well if you have a couple hundred or so ties then the money could add up. Anyway, let em be the way they are being. We found a better place.

So much for them getting their money now! If there are no posters to click on their little ads then they get no money.
