Speaking of horrible covers: novelist Sandra Gulland has this interesting post on her blog about covers on novels (http:///sandragulland.blogspot.com/2009/10/question-to-internationally-published.html) published overseas. Have others had similiar issues?
Also she has some news (http://sandragulland.blogspot.com/2009/10/french-edition-cover-news-and-and.html) about her novels...

She won the battle! That's not an easy battle to wage. I have almost no control over my foreign covers (http://www.michellemoran.com/editions.htm). Some are really atrocious, and others I can live with. My favorite foreign cover is probably Greece's version of Nefertiti, or maybe the Czech Republic's. But others (ahem, Turkey) are just revolting.

I shall get my friend in Lithuania to pick up your books, Michelle! I do not like the Slovakian cover either. The Czech one makes her look like the teenage girl around the corner who just popped on a fancy hat! Oddly, the ones that have the image of Nefertiti that I like -- that classic bust -- aren't always well designed otherwise -- the Danish one and the Portuguese have all that busy stuff going on around them, curlicues, etc. I agree -- the Greek one is great!
I tried to find the horrible cover on Amazon. fr with no luck. But I would also have complained about the anachronistic (late 1890s era dress) on "le dernier bal de l'imperatrice", roughly translated as the empress's last waltz or ball or dance. (not sure which book corresponds to it, as I haven't read the series.) Bare back and shoulders-- heck, that could even be 1930s. Certainly not circa 1800...

I was very happy to read that Ms. Gulland won the battle about getting a new French book cover next spring for Mistress of the Sun. I very much liked Petite :p
And even more excited to have read about the film (and/or future) contracts for a Josephine B. Trilogy mini-series and Mistress of the Sun It will be wonderful to see them on the screen! :)
