I came across this at PBS and wondered how someone might rate it and what your opinions were on it.

I read "Slammerkin" some years ago and thought it excellent. It's not a happy story by any means, but it is a compelling psychological study.

It's similar in spirit to Sheri Holman's "Dress Lodger" (http://www.amazon.com/Dress-Lodger-Ballantine-Readers-Circle/dp/0345436911) if you've read that.

I read and enjoyed it. My views are the same as Annis'. Not a skippy doo happy novel by any manner of means. Belongs to the Fingersmith school of writing, but it is gripping.

It's on my TBR pile as are a couple of the author's other books - Life Mask and The Sealed Letter.
