I thought I'd ask you guys for help. :p

I really like Tracy Chevaliers writing and also the concept of writing about characters from famous paintings and such. But the day will come when I have read them all.

Would any of you happen to know if there is another author similar to Tracy Chevalier?? :)

I don't know if her style is similar, as I haven't yet read any of Susan Vreeland's (http://www.svreeland.com/) books, but I do know that she chooses artists and paintings for the subjects of her novels.

I'd compare Vreeland favorably with Chavelier, and actually think Girl in Hycinth Blue better than Girl in a Pearl Earring (tho liked that quite a bit). If you are wanting books dealing with art and artists, you might check out the art detective series by Iain Pears.

Check out my articles Artists I (http://www.historicalnovels.info/Artists.html) (prehistoric times - 17th century) and Artists II (http://www.historicalnovels.info/Artists-II.html) (18th and 19th centuries) at www.HistoricalNovels.info. They aren't complete, by any means, and the authors' writing styles vary, but this should help get you started.

I would second the Vreeland rec.

The other thing is that there is currently an Art History Reading Challenge (http://www.arthistoryreadingchallenge.blogspot.com/) going on and you might get some more ideas if you have a look at some of the links there.

There's a thread on 18th-19th century artists in the Historical Fiction by Era section of the forum, with other suggestions.

I wouldn't compare myself to Tracy Chevalier, but my book coming out soon might be of interest, if you like van Gogh.:)

Thank you for your replies, they have all been very helpful and once again I discovered many books I've never heard of ( ie Vreeland and Bundrick .) Have to put them on my list I reckon.
