Hi all.
29, 6ft, brown hair and eyes, turn-ons include....
Wait... what.
Oh it's not that kind of site?
Okay I was gonna put a reading log in but it timed out before I finished and couldn't be bothered retyping it. I'll kick one off with my current reading list later, but as far as the last few months are concerned, I've churned through:
"Gallipoli Sniper": John Hamilton
"The Rum Diary": Hunter S Thompson
"The Forest of Hours": Kerstin Ekman
"Sharpe's Revenge": Bernard Cornwell
"Deception Point": (cough) Dan Brown
"Sharpe's Havoc": Bernard Cornwell
"Slave Ship": Marcus Riedekker
"African Diaspora - A Reader": Various
"The Whale Road": Robert Low
Feel free to post in here or PM if you want a review of anything on the list.
-Steve

Welcome to the list! Let's see . . . it's 9:22 pm here which makes it sometime in the morning where you are and it's dark the whole world in between. I think we're the only ones up!

Hey Sarah,
Thanks for the welcome from the Oregon Country!
Yeah waiting all day for replies, is indeed the sorry lot of a Southern Hemisphere board-poster. Though by the looks there are a few on here already.
I'm just so glad I found this site! In this market (Aus) there's not a book exchange (er' second-hand bookstore) around that can support a dedicated historical fiction section.
So getting an impartial review of a title before I have to shell out for a brand new copy will hopefully head off any more expensive additions to the "chaff" shelf.
Do you have a particular corner of the genre (fantasy/crime/romance-historical fiction) or period that you stick to?

Hi- good to see you here. There are lots of good things about this site, but one of the few not-so-good ones is that if you take too long over a post you get booted :( It's a good idea to do the Word document thing and then copy 'n' paste onto the forum if you're doing a longer post.

Hey Steve, welcome here. You will save yourself money getting reviews of books pre-purchase...but lose it all again buying books you never knew about. Being in the UK I also get up and see I missed lots of good conversations, but then us Brits get a whole one or two in before all the Americans get up! It's great fun.

G'day fellow aussie!
As for book exchanges, if you're in the western Sydney area, Parklea markets have a great seller that has a special historical fiction section. Only open on the weekends, but they have a website as well for ordering:
www.parkleabooks.com.au
Other than that I order online mostly these days as the book prices locally just come close to competing.
Welcome aboard!

Hello and welcome!
I second what annis said -if you're posting something more than a few lines, it's well worth typing it in Word or similar first, just in case the forum times out on you.

Hey Steve:
I read anything. Some of my favorites are Sherwood (Parke Godwin); 1632 (Eric Flint); Anything by Sharon Kay Penman (SKP to everyone here); anything by Ellis Peters/Edith Pargeter (Brother Cadfael et. al.). I like anything time travel and historical fantasy; I like historical romance much of the time, as long as it actually has a genuine plot. I like Bernard Cornwall except when my eyes glaze over with the war scenes. You'll find lots of different tastes and book recommendations here!
Sarah
