I have a review copy of this book, and without giving too much away, keep an eye on the announcements box soon!
The publicist contacted me through my blog and asked if I would like a copy to review and of course, I said yes - who can say no to a free book?! I should be finished with it tonight and will post my thoughts/review.

I love the work of Margaret Campbell Barnes. The publisher is Sourcebooks who are really pushing forward in the historical fiction market at the moment.

I hope they re-release more of her books. I own several and really like them.

I have four of her novels in their original trade 1970s releases. The covers are very cool, all willowy and Klimt-like; and one in its original hardcover about Henry VIII's fool, Will Somers (it's eerily like Margaret George's premise for "Autobiography of Henry VIII, written years later). I really liked Barnes' novel on Isabella, She-Wolf of France, but I haven't read "Brief, Gaudy Hour" or "My Lady of Cleves" yet. I just unearthed them recently while cleaning out book boxes. I was determined to give away some books - too many, need the space, etc.-and ended up giving away exactly five, two of which I'd unwittingly bought extra copies of. The other 10,000 returned to their homes. Sigh.

Sounds somewhat similar to my idea of a bookshelf clear out. Last time I did one, I gave away about 12 books, and all but 2 of them ended up back on my bookshelf! :o

I've just finished reading Brief Gaudy Hour and really enjoyed it so I'm looking forward to My Lady Cleeves. I was lucky enough to be contacted by Sourcebooks about this author. I can't believe I had never even heard of her before. Seems I was really missing out.

I have Brief Gaudy Hour (haven't read it yet though).
I would love My Lady of Cleves.
Is it a brand new release or a re- release?

It's a rerelease. Keep your eyes peeled for an announcement about a couple of MCB books this weekend (if I get my act together and do something in conjunction with it!)

Thanks for the welcome Marg!
I did finish Brief Gaudy Hour and really enjoyed it. The only other novel about Anne Boleyn I've read before was Philippa Gregory's book The Other Boleyn Girl (which I did like) but MCB really did well with this one. I liked that we got the backstory - like her time at the French Court. I don't remember that in the Gregory book.
I haven't gotten to My Lady of Cleeves yet but I need to do so soon.

I want to read Brief Gaudy Hour, but since its from the 70s I worry that I wont enjoy it. I tried to read some other HF from the era and it just didnt sit well.
Does this one read like a modern book? Is it from Anne's POV?

Divia - that's a good point. I looked at my book and the copyright is actually 1949. I didn't find it "dated" if you will.
It's told from third person POV and I think the author describes well the younger Anne who was actually in love with another man and how she goes from being heartbroken to learning how to play the court game. I'd definitely recommend it.

I received My Lady of Cleeves from Amazon yesterday and I hope to hop into it tonight! I don't think I've read a book about her before. I always wondered why Jean Plaidy skipped over her...

Me too! In comparison to Boleyn Inheritance, this novel goes at a relaxed pace.

When searching to see if The King's Bed was available on Amazon, I was rather surprised to see this cover image:

Well, I am just speechless. Although I do hope its an Amazon mistake linking that item with the reviews and not the reviewers posting it there :):p

Not quite sure what's going on but the bed pic has shown up on the book page (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/580701.The_King_s_Bed)at goodreads as well.

It will be an Amazon error (and whatever appears on Amazon seems to appear on Goodreads as well).
The good news is that if you look in the section headed 'product information' you can contact Amazon and basically tell them what idiots they are. i had to contact both Amazon UK and Amazon.com to point out they had the wrong author name on my book details. The good news is they took notice and changed it. Maybe someone should point this out to them?
I recently bought My lady of Cleves but have not started it as of yet. This will be my first MCB book and I've not really heard of her, I'm guessing they are re-releasing them?

I just recently received The Tudor Rose so I am hoping that I enjoy that as much as I enjoyed My Lady of Cleves and Brief Gaudy Hour
I'm really liking My Lady of Cleves unfortunatly I don't have as much time to read in the summer so I'm taking forever to read it.
