looking for help/reviews

So I've put out my first novel, and I was forunate enough to have it printed by a publisher, but I'm really wanting to get the word out and let people know what the book is about and how it reads. I could talk more about it, but listening to me babble about my own book is kind of like asking the manufacturer how good thier product is, right? So I'm looking for some decent and credible sources for reviews. I wouldn't want a powder puff piece, and full disclosure would not only be accepted, but recomended and preferred. I'm more than willing to ship an off the shelf book on my dime to a reviewer who can give an honest review and also place it up for potential readers to see. Anyone have any recomendations? any help you could offer would be great! thanks~

Have you tried bloggers who write about your subject? They'd be a good bet for reviews.

The Historical Novel Society is also a good source for reviews. The online version of the Historical Novels Review reviews self-published books; the print version reviews "traditionally" published books.

Several of the contributors here have websites and/or blogs, and some do reviews. There's a list in the "Links" forum; hopefully this link http://www.historicalfictiononline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28 will take you there. You could look through the list and contact likely-looking reviewers.

The Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer is one of my top five favourite books of all time. I'm also starting Life and Fate by A. Vassily, and I've read other books about WWII in Russia. Although my field is Roman HF, I have a keen interest in your subject matter, and I'd be delighted to read your book and give it a review if you like.

You have a clever website, by the way!

Actually, I was a little hesitant doing it the way we did... I wasn't sure people would really "get it". There's actually some hidden stuff in the website too, things that there aren't buttons for - there's three that I know of.

I've talked on several forums and has some succuess from readers, never a bad thing, but have had no luck getting anyone who actually RUNS a blog or reviewer site.

I'm going to keep plugging at it. I PMed a couple of peopl here, misfit being one, though I haven't heard back from anyone yet. I'm sure they are busy and haven't seen them yet.
