Since the Historical Fiction.org has vanished from cyberspace without explanation, the mods have started this new site. In the days to come, we'll be improving it, so bear with us for a while. We've missed you guys!

One way to get the site off to a good start would be for those of you who have posted book reviews in the past to repost them.

Welcome back!

I'll see if I can post a message at TudorTalk, I think a few members were on that list.

A big "thank you" from me too. I'm so relieved; morning coffee just hasn't been the same w/o the HF forum. Somehow I feel like I need to know what everyone else is reading, and what they think about what they've read.

What was your nick on previous forum, it just shows your email address this time.

And a big "high five" from me as well. I'm sure it won't be any time at all before we are all back together again ... and having a big family reunion!

You guys must have worked really, really hard to get this up so quickly. The withdrawal symptoms have been terrible - I'm so glad to have a forum again. Thank you!!!

I've posted an announcement on my blog at http://www.historicalnovels.info/historical-novels-blog.html. It had a huge number of visitors yesterday, so people are hungry for news.

Good job, guys! I've missed the forum. Fortunately, I have word files of all my book reviews, so I'll go post them again. Hope my avatar will cooperate.

Hope my avatar will cooperate.

It is possible that we will not be able to post avatars until we make a certain number of posts. It seems that what is on our User CPs now is a profile picture not an avatar.

Thanks so much for starting this new site! It would have been such a shame to let this great forum die.

I will do a post about the new site on my blog to help spread the word.

Thanks again!

Have those of you trying to post avatars tried "Edit Avatar" in your user profile?

As far as I can tell, avatars are enabled for everyone, so people should be able to post them unless they're larger than the board allows.

Maybe it's just me - I can't find an "edit avatar" link anywhere ... ???

I cannot tell you how pleased I am to have the board up!

I was suffering massive withdrawal symptoms!

I'll post some reviews tonight.

Go to UserCP and then Edit Avatar

Hey... I just joined. Used to be Lady Sorbus, but as I'm trying to get rid of that ID online, I've switched to another I've used elsewhere.

If any help is needed with graphics, I'm pretty handy with graphics, so just holla.

I don't see an edit avatar option.

If you go to User CP and then about half way down the page there is an Edit Avatar option.

There isn't any 'edit avatar' option on my user CP. I checked three times, just to make sure I wasn't missing it.

Hello everyone!

First - a major nod to the mods for creating a new home for us. A thousand thanks to each of you. Second - it's great to be back and I was starting to feel twinges of withdrawal as well.
So let's post away and get a fresh new forum going.

btw - I was RacingGreen in a former HF life. ;)

Hiya! Yay! Great to be back and many thanks to the moderators for working to get us all set up again. If I've signed in right, I'm probably EC2 this time around as I wasn't allowed to have only two letters/digits to my name. I dithered and dallied with handles, and decided that it was taking too long, so sorry I sound like a UK postal code, but who gives a stuff. The forum's back and that's what matters!

Ditto here. I know on the royalty forum I help moderate, posters cannot do certain things until they have posted a certain number of posts.

That's weird about the avatars, because the site is set to allow everyone to have 'em. This link might be of help; if not, I'll keep tweaking.

http://www.historicalfictiononline.com/forums/faq.php?faq=vb3_user_profile#faq_vb3_signatures_av atars

EC2, the system should now accept two-letter names. It was defaulted to accept no less than 3.

Glad to be back here, and thanks for setting this up so fast! I should have checked the blogs earlier - I'd have had something to keep me busy when it was slow at work :)

Does the avatar option display now only for moderators, maybe?

This is great! I have missed you guys! Well done mods for creating this new site. It is a shame that we have lost all that wealth of information from the other site, but I guess we will just have to talk about all those books, all over again!

I can't find an avatar sig either. Boswell, I tried clicking on your link and got a box with 'no avatar specified'. It wouldn't let me uncheck the box to load it.
Teething problems but at least we have a forum!

By the way, some older book reviews can be retrieved via the Web Archive:

http://web.archive.org/web/20071227011425/www.historicalfiction.org/historical-fiction-book-reviews.php

It looks like only those reviews posted in that section in 2006 and earlier are there. The archive software didn't appear to track forum threads, so ones posted in the forums are probably gone.

I see some people have been able to get their signatures to work - for some reason, mine is not showing up. I clicked on the box to "displayit" - is there something else I need to do?

WOW! Hat's off to boswellbaxter. Due to a really dumb misstep on my part, I created a real problem with registering my user name. With all the responsibilities she faced creating this great new site, our super administrator got my problem corrected. Thank you!!!

Yeah!!!! I had just joined a month or so ago and I'd quickly got hooked. So the idea of the forum not being there was just horrid, withdrawal symptoms were in sight. Thanks to all of the mods for getting together and bringing this up. It would be esp cool if the old stuff can be retrieved, but if not, as a poster above said, we'll just have to read and discuss those books all over again!

BTW out of curiousity - were we able to get in touch with the owners, or they were just AWOL?

I was wondering that.

Can I make a suggestion....if you have changed your name, can you please show the one we know in your sig perhaps? That way we will know who we are talking too!

Very cool! I'm really impressed that this site was created in the time it was.

It's good to see Historical Fiction back, and it's good to be back. I toyed with the idea of changing my user name, and then didn't.

Cheers everybody!

I hadn't been on the "old" site lately due to time issues but just found out from a post on another site by Tanzanite (thanks, Daphne!!!) Gosh, how sad....what happened? That was the first real forum I belonged to and have had so much fun over the years.

Hi everyone! :)

I was mainly a lurker at the old forum but I checked it everyday, I'm glad to see my addiction back online. So thanks to the administrators!

I was able to add an avatar right from the start, in your User CP on the left side you should see a link that says "Edit Profile Picture". Let's see if it shows up when I post this...

THAAANK YOU! I'm SO glad to have found you, after an hour or so of sleuthing on the web. I too have been having withdrawal symptoms, the silliest one being clicking on the old site several times, just because I couldn't believe it was gone! Anyway, you moderators are super. This site will be so much better. That home page being the same forever on the old site always drove me crazy. THANKS AGAIN!!!
